Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a health professional whose primary focus is to respond to, assess and triage emergent, urgent, and non-urgent requests for medical care, apply basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and medical transportation to/from an emergency or health care facility.
The EMT is a certificate program. Classes are delivered through a combination of classroom instruction (didactic and psychomotor) and clinical experience. Upon successful completion of all courses, students are eligible to sit for the National
Registry’s written and practical examinations. Upon successful completion of examinations and other licensure requirements, the student will be eligible for the State of Tennessee EMT license.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
To be eligible for the AEMT you must be currently licensed as an EMT by the State of Tennessee or have completed an approved course within 120 days of enrollment into the AEMT course and successfully completed a board approved EMT competency written and practical examination.
The AEMT is a certificate program. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician has the knowledge associated with, and is expected to be competent in, all the skills of the EMR and EMT. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician training is a combination of classroom instruction (didactic and psychomotor) and numerous areas of clinical experience. Upon successful completion of all courses, students are eligible to sit for the National Registry written and practical examinations.
